A pretty large Starbucks right in the middle of Downtown. The ambiance is great, there are a couple of fireplaces and lots of tables and couches to sit on and there is also a basement which gives even more space. Starbucks is Starbucks, there is no exception here. The baristas and cashiers are very friendly.

For several years I worked nearby and would often stop in for coffee up to three times a day. I loved the coffee -- bold with soy milk -- but what I really loved was the staff. They quickly learn to recognize the regulars and many of them would welcome me by name and they'd remember earlier conversations we'd had.

    Light here sucks.

Love Starbucks. This location rocks the usual Starbucks atmosphere, but since it's on campus there are plenty of seats for everyone and plug outlets near most tables. I like this branch because the lighting is bright and doesn't get as noisy as the one on State and Liberty-- much better for studying and/or zoning out over a morning latte. The layout of the shop is not so conducive to handling the morning/between class rush, so it can get a little bit cramped, but it's clean, the staff are nice and they serve all your Starbucks favorites. All in all, I would come here over Espresso or Amer's any day.

A-OK because the service has always been friendly. But I was tempted to give two stars because this place is so dimly lit, I wouldn't dare attempt to work here, unless my ultimate goal was to fall asleep in my books. And of course, there are the undergrads. They're not all bad (not even most of them), but every now and then you're practically forced into an eyeroll-worthy interaction with one who has defied natural selection for the last 18 years: Girl: *chatting on the phone with her friend when she should be ordering* Excuse me, is this the Starbucks on State Street? Barista: No, this is the one on South U. Girl: *annoyed* Well, so where is the Starbucks on State Street? Me: ........... On State Street............ Girl: *glares at me* True story, bro. Props to the barista for being able to maintain a straight face.

Ugh, this place frustrates me. The coffee here is particularly mediocre for some reason (Shouldn't all Starbucks be the same? Isn't that the idea of a franchise?) and it's always annoyingly packed when I go by, but the staff have always been really friendly and personable. (Those two stars are for them) The biggest thing this place has going for it is that it is on my way home from school and I am outstandingly lazy. If you'd like to wait around for a chair so you can listen to vapid 18 year olds next to you have conversations about how popular they were/are, this Starbucks is for you. I think you'll probably have to venture a bit further from South U for a more mature crowd to enjoy your caffeine with.

Similar to some earlier comments, the quality of this Starbucks is what you'd expect and most smooth-running coffee shops. But by far the best asset of this location is the space. Maybe because there are tons of coffee shops West of State Street, they all seem to become crowded, especially during evenings. This location on the other hand, is HUGE. Couches, two long benches, and tons of smaller tables mean this location is never packed, and you'll usually take your pick at where to sit. This also means inside is relatively chill, so you can enjoy you're okay Starbucks coffee in peace. I'd definitely recommend this place for working without distractions.

this review is not about Starbucks coffee, but rather this specific Starbucks location. Being in the middle of downtown Ann Arbor, one would expect this to be a small Starbucks, with only a few seats an minimal room for waiting in line. At least that's what I was expecting. Not the case at all!! There is so much seating, ranging from comfy chairs, to tall tables, to smaller tables. It can get a tad cold in the colder seasons seeing as half of the building is made of windows though, so try to get a seat in the back. The people who work there are also extremely friendly, warm people. They know how to deal with a lot of people at once, which is good because the line can get pretty long. It's a great place to go hangout with friends, or just chill for a while.

Serving the students on South U, this place is by go to location when I'm on campus to check for my mail. It does get busy, especially during evenings and exam weeks, but the line move pretty fast and the service is good.

Reviewing Starbucks is pretty useless, since the coffee here is uniform from coast to coast and, if you haven't been to SB yet... Oh boy. So I'll go into the specifics of this location. State St. SB is right by the post office and all of the restaurants on S. University, so it's a great place to check your email (free Wifi!) study, or catch up with friends. Also the baristas here are very friendly, some of them even know me by name. Right out the back door you'll find the post office. During exam week it can be pretty difficult to find a table, you'll be competing with all of the other Pre-Med freshman with four shots of expresso behind their eyeballs, cramming for their Gen Chem exam. But there are usually more than enough tables to go around, and the fact that it's just so airy and wide in here makes for a nice environment. Cheap, soulless coffee at a great price; this is why I keep coming back here, despite all of the better alternatives here in Ann Arbor.

This is probably the best of the locations to study on South U. They have ample space and have outlets along the walls so you can plug in. Starbucks also has Google Wifi - super fast and it's free! Food and coffee are the same at every Starbucks, so I won't comment too much about that. Do partake in their rewards card because every 12 stars you earn, you get a free drink! You also get a free drink on your birthday. Employees are generally really nice and funny here.

It was my birthday the first day I went to this store. I told the guy at the counter that I wanted to redeem my free birthday drink using the app but wasn't sure how to do so. He told me he would show me how to redeem it, whatever he pressed charged my account (I watched the money that I had stored there decreased) I looked up confused and he smiled at me blankly. I could have said something but just wanted to leave.

The biggest Starbucks I've ever been to. Period. Seems like a perfect place for group meetings/studying. The drinks and service were just standard.

Since they renovated the inside, this Starbucks has become a prime study location yet again. All the baristas are super friendly, there is tons of space to study during the summer months and the internet is lighting fast since they switched to Google WiFi. I really wouldn't recommend coming here though during the school year as it seems to get pretty busy because of all the students that study here.

This Starbucks location has to be the worst I have visited. The coffee is the coffee, but the atmosphere which is what I am paying for is sub-par. Due to the location on South U it is always crowded and messy. People camp out here for many hours and presumably are downloading movies or something. The Internet is seriously unusable except very early in the morning or right before closing. Not just slow... but unusable for even basic tasks like email. They seem to train new workers here or just put the special baristas here because efficiency and quality aren't quite up to snuff compared to other locations. A lot of employees just hang out and chat with each other even when they aren't on a shift which means the pick-up area is clogged with off duty workers. I hate to sound like an old bag but seriously kids... STFU and make my coffee. A lot of the positive reviews are for THE WRONG STARBUCKS. Anything that mentions a fireplace, multiple levels, large area and lots of outlets is talking about the one on Liberty & State. That location is probably one of the better I have been to.
